Ambassador attends Vesak Day in Ottawa at Ottawa City hall
On 7 May 2017, His Excellency Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to Canada, attended Vesak Day in Ottawa and the Asian Heritage festival, organized by Vesak in Ottawa, at Ottawa City Hall. As part of the ceremony, the Ambassador, as well as other dignitaries such as MP Chandra Arya; His Worship Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa; and His Excellency Kyaw Myo Htut, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, along with members of the Diplomatic Corps, participated in the international Buddhist flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall,
Mayor Jim Watson officially proclaimed the month of May as “Vesak Month”. A representative from Vesak in Ottawa also read a special message from the Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, during the ceremony. In addition, Mr. Visita Leelaratna, founder of Vesak in Ottawa, presented the Ambassador with a framed copy of the "Vesak Month" proclamation in appreciation of the continued support from the Royal Thai Embassy.

The Royal Thai Embassy, together with the Willpower Institute Meditation Centre of Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo, joined in to showcase the teaching of Buddhism, Thai culture and tourism, along with other Embassies and non-profit organizations. The day was filled with various religious and cultural activities, including a classical Thai dance by the Thai Dance Troupe of Ottawa (TDO).
